A much-needed breath of fresh air to the franchise.

I went to watch the movie with the same expectation for any other Resident Evil: hungry zombies, lots of gunfire, lots of death, no real plot, umbrella employees in white coats spilling green virus, etc.

I was pleasantly surprised. The movie is funny, new and well-made. It's more of a side story or reboot and easily sheds the baggage from the previous ones. I especially liked the small role that Paul Walter Hauser played, where he's basically an overtly incompetent/corrupt scientist that comes off as quite funny. The movie generally blends horror and zombies with comedy/dark humor very well throughout the duration and right up till the end.
