Our review
by Mohammad AlJarhi ·The cinematic equivalent of Avatar, but in Greek mythology.
The movie that made 70mm IMAX a big deal, and for good reason. At minimum, watching massively cropped scenes (that probably still show all you need to see) in our poor man's regular cinemas was plenty reason for people to flock to 70mm. The movie has a strong focus on cinematic realism, from the rocking ships and battering storms to the fire-lit keeps and grassy meadows. There was a lightning scene in particular in one of those storms that was too intense for me, it was hard to keep my eyes open even though I'm typically not fazed by strobing effects at all.
The story itself, I would argue, is largely faithful to the original with some minor 'bundling' and alterations to streamline the viewing experience. The biggest creative license here is how Nolan tried to weave a narrative of regret and moral degradation through Zeus's Law (respecting beggars and giving hospitality).
If we were to judge the movie based on narrative, plot or message then it would not go very far. It is a must-watch for the cinematic experience and bringing Greek mythology to the screen with epic immersive realism.
